If a child starts from scratch with no prior musical knowledge, it typically takes around 5 years of lessons before they are ready to take the ABRSM exam.
At Etude, our initial focus is on building a strong foundation for children, ensuring their fundamental techniques are solid. These basic techniques include:
Reading notes with proper timing (rhythm)
Music details (articulation)
Shaping sound into phrases
Many music schools rush through exam preparation, focusing solely on the exam pieces without covering other important aspects of music education. This often results in students struggling due to the difficulty of the exam pieces, with little time devoted to mastering other skills.
At Etude, we take a different approach. While it may seem like a longer timeframe, our goal is to ensure that children have a solid foundation. Once their basic techniques are strong, they will progress smoothly through the exams until they successfully pass. We prioritize a well-rounded musical education to set our students up for long-term success.
Children aged 3-4 years old will be placed in our Baby Piano Class. The Baby Piano Class focuses on enhancing children's sensory and motor skills through a general understanding of music.
For children aged 5 and above, they will be guided to directly engage with the chosen musical instrument, typically the piano. However, the decision of materials and methods is not solely determined by age but also by the readiness of the child.
For more detailed information, we could schedule you a free consultation with Mrs. Nadia, our Academic Director. She will provide a thorough explanation of the curriculum and teaching methodology.
Absolutely! Each level advancement comes with a certificate if your child signs up for ABRSM exam.
Our certificates are issued by ABRSM, a globally recognized certification body. These certificates hold significant value for the future endeavors of students. Whether they're applying to schools or seeking opportunities that require musical certification, the ABRSM certificate proves invaluable.
